An Ode to Myself
You grew up too fast.
Felt too much pain.
Your eyes lost their sparkle,
And the smiles were fake.
But here you are now,
With a laugh that fills the room,
A heart that holds so much love,
And a soul that burns with passion.
No longer are you the sixteen-year-old girl,
Who craved death and tried too many times to reach that.
No longer are you the girl who wallowed,
Who didn’t think she’d live past eighteen.
Look at you now.
Look at how far you’ve come.
Twenty years old and learning to help others.
An optimist despite it all.
You deserve to be happy,
You deserve to be loved by others and yourself.
You will slip up every now then,
But as you continue to grow,
Just know that I’m proud of you.
